Collection on 25 September

On Sunday, 25 September 2005, the annual Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will be held in parishes across Canada. The money raised will finance the activities of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), an organization created by the Bishops of Canada to combine their efforts, to help each other meet their pastoral responsibilities, and to avail themselves of the resources needed to collectively address major issues in Canadian society and the Church.

What initiatives does your donation help support? Everything from forming adults to be active in their communities, to helping youth deepen their faith, to living in communion with other Christians through ecumenical reconciliation, and to defending causes that are important to Catholics: social justice, elimination of poverty, questions that deal with life. The CCCB is at the service of the whole Church. Thank you for your generous donation. Information: www.cccb.ca.

Collection on 25 September

The Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada will be held on Sunday 25 September 2005. As one of the faithful, you are often asked to support your Church at the parish, diocesan, national or international level. This annual collection in September, however, is of particular importance for our Church. It finances the activities of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). Through the CCCB, the Bishops of Canada have equipped themselves, as in other countries, with an organization that unites them and enables them to work together on issues of common concern.

Some examples:

·        The CCCB coordinates the activities that surround World Youth Days, such as those held in Cologne, Germany, last August.

·        The CCCB is often the voice of Canadian Catholics, as was the case following the tsunami that devastated numerous South-Asian communities last December. The efforts of the Conference helped Development and Peace to collect over $20 million to aid victims of this disaster.

Your support enables the CCCB to carry out its mission at the service of the Church. Thank you for financially participating in this ministry. Information: www.cccb.ca.

The Collection of the Needs of the Church in Canada will be held on Sunday, 25 September 2005. Why is this collection needed? Where does the collected money go?

The money raised helps finance the activities of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), to which your diocesan bishop belongs. Along with his brother bishops, he can, thanks to the CCCB, access unique resources that allow him to better fulfill his mission as pastor. Your donation is essential and the Canadian bishops thank you for your generous contribution toward broadening the reach of our Church. Information: www.cccb.ca.

You are invited on 25 September 2005 to donate generously to the Bishops’ Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. The money collected will finance the CCCB. But how does the CCCB help me in my Christian life?

The CCCB, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, is the assembly of all the Bishops of Canada. Its mission is to aid them in their common ministry: the new evangelization and the proclamation of the Word.

The CCCB is at the service of the whole Church. Here are just a few of its initiatives:

-         liturgical books used in parishes every week

-         religious education materials used by your children or grand-children

-         the CCCB website http://www.cccb.ca/, one of the most consulted resources within the Canadian Catholic Church

-         the special collection for Development and Peace to aid victims of the tsunami, which collected over $20 million

Thank you in advance for your generosity during the Bishops’ Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada. Information: www.cccb.ca.

If you were asked to describe the work of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), how would you answer? If you answered that, as the name indicates, it brings together the Bishops of Canada, allowing them to work collectively for the good of our Church, you would be right!

Many people also know the Conference through its work in coordinating major events, such as World Youth Day or the veneration of the relics of St. Therese of Lisieux across Canada. The CCCB also participates actively in dialogue with representatives of other Christian churches and religions. The Conference encourages missionary and evangelical work throughout the world, but also here in Canada, in the Far North. The CCCB also works in collaboration with Development and Peace – an organization that it founded – to promote international solidarity. It urges our government on topics important to Canadians, including marriage, health care, child poverty, respect for life, and the state of the family.

Within our Church, the CCCB plays a unique and irreplaceable role, as do the diocese and the parish. In order to continue its work, the Conference needs your financial assistance. Thank you in advance for your generous donation on the occasion of the Bishops’ Collection for the Needs of the Church in Canada, which will be held on Sunday, 25 September 2005.
