The long-awaited release of actor/director Mel Gibson's film The Passion of the Christ
has generated a lot of publicity, discussion and interest. It is being
screened for
the general public beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 25, in
more than
2,000 movie theatres around the world, including 150 across Canada.
To help understand this film, the Communications Service
of the Canadian
Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has
developed this Internet resource to promote discussion and foster
a deeper awareness of Christ's Passion.
The CCCB does not have an official position regarding The Passion of the Christ. This
film is the
work of an artist, and it reflects his vision and beliefs about
the Passion of Christ. The material presented here is offered to
provide resources for reflection and follow-up for
those who will see this film.
