The Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace:
- Encourages, through the light of the Gospel, reflection and activities to enhance justice and the respect of people within society.
- Assists Canadian Bishops in their role as moral teachers in accordance with the social teachings of the Church and the CCCB's pastoral objectives.
The commission is composed of four members. Consultants are invited to participate. The members hold four annual working sessions.

The mandate of the Commission for Doctrine includes the following:
- Helps to identify the theological and pastoral needs of the Church;
- Undertakes studies;
- Prepares CCCB statements on related themes;
- Serves as CCCB contact with Canadian theologians and theological bodies;

The Commission:
- Forms relationships with other Churches and ecclesial communities, religions outside of the Christian faith, as well as with national and international ecumenical organizations
- Helps the Bishops to identify current issues relating to Christian Unity
- Finds ways to infuse an ecumenical dimension in all Conference activities
- Stimulates theological dialogues which promote Christian Unity and a better understanding of the religious traditions of each other.
