Standing Committee for Development and Peace

First created as an ad hoc committee, the Standing Committee for Development and Peace was officially established by the 2010 Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB). The Committee is intended to facilitate communication between the Conference and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP).

Since the earliest European settlements in Canada five centuries ago, there has been a close association between the indigenous people and the Catholic Church. Four hundred years ago, on June 24, 1610, Grand Chief Henri Membertou, became the first North American and Mi’kmaq chief to be baptized.
