2018 annual meeting of the Coordination of Episcopal Conferences in Support of the Church in the Holy Land

Holy Land 2016-6From 13 to 18 January 2018, the Most Reverend Lionel Gendron, P.S.S., Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), will participate in the annual meeting of the Coordination of Episcopal Conferences in Support of the Church in the Holy Land. Bishop Gendron will be accompanied by Msgr. Frank Leo, General Secretary of the CCCB. The meeting this year will focus on youth and education. This annual international gathering involves representatives from Conferences of Bishops in Europe and North America who meet with the Assembly of Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land (AOCTS). Mr. Carl Hétu, National Director of CNEWA-Canada, will be also present at the 2018 meeting.

The annual meeting will first include a visit to the Latin Catholic parish in Gaza City where the Bishops will participate in the Sunday Mass, followed by a gathering with youth and a pastoral visit to the sick and housebound. The participants as well will visit several schools and universities, including a nursing program offered by Bethlehem University to young adults in the village of El-Qubeibeh, located 11 kilometers northwest of Jerusalem in the northern West Bank. The delegates will also meet with the Madrasa interfaith group which bring together on a weekly basis Christians, Jews and Muslims to reflect on various sacred texts. Part of the delegation will be received as well for evening prayer and a meal with the Jewish community at a synagogue in Jerusalem and will also participate at the consecration of the Reverend "Sani Ibrahim" Charlie Azar as the new Evangelical Lutheran Bishop of the Holy Land which will take place in the Old City on Friday 12 January.
