Election of a new President of the Canadian Religious Conference

Soeur Micheline Payette-Présidente CRCThe Canadian Religious Conference (CRC) held its 31st General Assembly from May 26 to 29, 2016, in Montreal. Some 300 leaders of Catholic Institutes of Religious life from across Canada elected a new Board of Directors. Sister Michelle Payette, a Missionary Sister of the Immaculate-Conception, was elected president. During this gathering, which takes place every two years, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Most Reverend Paul Lortie, Bishop of Mont-Laurier and President of the Assembly of Quebec Catholic Bishops, as well as the Most Reverend Luigi Bonazzi, Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, addressed the participants. His Eminence Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec and Primate of Canada, presided over at the Eucharistic celebration which preceded the banquet on Saturday.
