Solemn Mass for the 175th anniversary of the Archdiocese of Toronto

175 Arch TorontoTo highlight and celebrate the 175th anniversary of the founding of Archdiocese of Toronto, His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will preside at a Eucharistic celebration in St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica, 30 May 2017 at 10:30 a.m., in the presence of a number of Bishops from Ontario and other parts of Canada, among whom will be His Eminence Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix, Archbishop of Québec and Primate of Canada, the Most Reverend Christian Lépine, Archbishop of Montreal, the Most Reverend Terrence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of Ottawa, the Most Reverend Richard Smith, Archbishop of Edmonton, the Most Reverend J. Michael Miller, C.S.B., Archbishop of Vancouver, and Msgr. Fermin Emilio Sosa Rodriguez, counsellor at the Apostolic Nunciature of Canada. Originally part of the Diocese of Kingston, Pope Gregory XVI on 17 December 1841 formally erected the Diocese of Toronto and named the Most Reverend Michael Power its first Bishop. The celebration will be broadcast live on the website of the Cathedral.
