Ottawa (CCCB) -- The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life has issued a decree in Rome appointing the Most Reverend Gilles Cazabon, OMI, Bishop of Timmins, as the Pontifical Commissioner for the Association of Les Fils de Marie in Canada.

The Vatican Congregation took the step as a sign of its concern for the good of the members of the Association and of the faithful. Bishop Cazabon assumes full authority over the Association and each of its members while the authority of the previous Association administration has been suspended.

Bishop Cazabon says he accepted this mandate as a service to the Church. He expects to travel to Rome later this month to meet with Congregation officials to discuss the mandate.

"I hope that I will be able to help Les Fils de Marie define its proper place within the Church," said Bishop Cazabon. "I know that I can count on the collaboration of the members of the Association to carry out this task in a climate of peace and harmony."

Bishop Cazabon's appointment is effective immediately.
