Death of Most Rev. Isidore Borecky, Eparchial Bishop Emeritus of Toronto and Eastern Canada

Bishop Isidore Borecky(CCCB - Ottawa) – Most Reverend Isidore Borecky, Eparchial Bishop Emeritus of Toronto and Eastern Canada (Ukrainian) passed away July 23, 2003, at 92 years of age.

A Bishop’s Parastas will be celebrated in Toronto on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at St. Nicholas Church at 7:30 p.m., and on Friday, July 25, 2003, at St. Josaphat’s Cathedral at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 10:00 a.m., at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Dormition, 3625 Cawthra Road, Mississauga, by His Beatitude Patriarch Lubomyr of Ukraine, assisted by bishops and clergy.

Born in Ostrivets, Ukraine, on October 1, 1911, Bishop Borecky was ordained to the priesthood in Munich, Germany, on July 17, 1938. He arrived in Canada on November 26, 1938, to serve the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic faithful. On March 3, 1948, he was named Apostolic Exarch of Eastern Canada, comprising Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime Provinces, for Ukrainian Greek-Catholics. It was raised to an eparchy in 1956. Bishop Borecky retired from active ministry in 1998.
