The General Secretariat welcomes two new employees

(CCCB – Ottawa)…The General Secretariat of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has recently engaged two new staff members: Dr. Sylvain Destrempes, who is joining the team as senior theological advisor, and Ms. Kelly Torrance as marketing coordinator for publications.

Dr. Sylvain DestrempesDr. Destrempes until recently was working in the Diocese of Valleyfield, Quebec, as a theological advisor. Holding two diplomas in theology from the Grand Séminaire de Montréal, a certificate in religious studies as well as a bachelor’s degree in phisosophy and a master’s degree in theology from the Université de Montréal, and a PhD in the philosophy of religion from McGill University, he has served as assistant professor in ecclesiology and Christology at the Dominican College in Ottawa. Fluently bilingual, he has taught systematic theology in both French and English at the university level, and has an excellent background in spirituality and ecumenical studies. Dr. Destrempes has given several conferences on spirituality in both Quebec and France.

His new responsibilities will be to assist the CCCB, particularly its Commission for Theology and also its Commission for Christian Unity / Religious Relations with the Jews / Interfaith Dialogue. As part of the Bureau for Ecclesial Relations and Doctrine, he will be engaged in analyzing, researching and drafting texts in theology, ecumenism and interfaith dialogue, in addition to advising the Commission for relations with national Catholic associations and collaborating with the office of the General Secretary.

 

Publications appointment

Ms. Kelly Torrance Ms. Kelly Torrance brings experience and expertise to the CCCB Publications Service as its new marketing coordinator.

With an Honours BA in English literature from McGill University, she has worked with Canada’s two largest English-language publishers. At Thomas Nelson and Pearson (Prentice-Hall) she held a number of positions, including senior acquisitions editor, and won two prestigious awards as sales representative of the year.

The CCCB Publications Service offers a wide range of resources in Catholic faith and values which include the heritage of Catholic teaching as well as contemporary reflections. Among its publications are texts used daily by numerous Catholic parishes and schools.
