Yearly retreat of the Canadian Council of Churches

Witnessing to Unity in Diversity, this year’s theme for the Canadian Council of Churches’ (CCC) annual retreat, was embodied and celebrated by key leaders across 21 Council denominations, who gathered in February and prayed in four different Christian traditions.  The 24 hour retreat in Mississauga encouraged open dialogue, prayer and friendship amongst Anglican, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Evangelical and Eastern and Oriental Orthodox traditions.   As President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop V. James Weisgerber attended the meeting. The CCCB is a member of the Canadian Council of Churches.   Read more …

Since the earliest European settlements in Canada five centuries ago, there has been a close association between the indigenous people and the Catholic Church. Four hundred years ago, on June 24, 1610, Grand Chief Henri Membertou, became the first North American and Mi’kmaq chief to be baptized.
