The Most Reverend Pierre-André Fournier, Archbishop of Rimouski and Chairman of the Social Affairs Committee of the Assembly of Québec Catholic Bishops, was the delegate from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops to an international congress on the theme Justice and Globalization: From Mater et Magistra to Caritas in Veritate, which was held in Rome, 16-18 May 2011. The congress had been organized by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace to mark the 50th anniversary of the Encyclical Mater et Magistra and was followed by the general assembly of Caritas Internationalis

Archbishop Fournier shares some of his ideas and thoughts about the Congress in his column which was carried in the May 29 edition of Progrès Écho, a French-language regional newspaper in the Archdiocese of Rimouski.  Archbishop Fournier is a member of the CCCB Standing Committee on Development and Peace.

More information about the congress is available on the website of the Pontifical Council.
