cecccccbholysee_up(CCCB-Ottawa)…A delegation from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) will be in Rome, November 3 to November 18, 2011, for the annual meetings with officials from the Holy See. The delegates are the newly elected CCCB President Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton, Vice President Archbishop-elect Paul-André Durocher of Gatineau, and General Secretary Msgr. Patrick Powers, P.H.

While in Rome, they will meet with as much as 27 various offices of the Curia, the central offices assisting the Holy Father in the governance of the universal Catholic Church.  The meetings include the Secretariat of State, Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Congregation for Bishops, Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and for Societies of Apostolic Life, and Congregation for Catholic Education.

The annual visits permit open exchanges on a regular basis between the Canadian Episcopal Conference and the Roman Curia about common projects, preoccupations and challenges for the Catholic Church both in Canada and around the world.

New Edition of the English-language Roman Missal

During the audience they hope to have with the Holy Father, the CCCB President will give Pope Benedict XVI a specially bound edition of the first copy that was printed of the revised English-language edition of the Roman Missal for Canada. The second copy of the Missal to be printed was given to Archbishop Pedro López Quintana, Apostolic Nuncio to Canada, at the official launching of the new Roman Missal on October 17, 2011, during the annual CCCB Plenary Assembly.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) is the national assembly of the Bishops of Canada. It was founded in 1943 and officially recognized by the Holy See in 1948. After the Second Vatican Council (1962–65), the CCCB became part of a worldwide network of Episcopal Conferences, established in 1965 as an integral part of the life of the universal Church.
