Challita Emmanuel(CCCB – Ottawa)... His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed the Rev. Emanuel Shaleta as Eparchial Bishop of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto. The Bishop-elect succeeds the Most Reverend Hanna Zora whose resignation was accepted by the Holy Father in May 2014 after Archbishop Zora had reached the age limit of 75. Since then, the Reverend Daoud Baffro has served as the Eparchy's Apostolic Administrator. Archbishop Zora was the first Eparchial Bishop of the Eparchy.

Born in 1956 in Fishkabour - Zakho, Iraq, the Bishop-elect was ordained priest in 1984 and at the time of his appointment was parish priest at Saint George Chaldean Catholic Church, Shelby Township, Michigan. He holds a doctorate in biblical theology from the Pontifical Urbanian University in Rome, and until now was a priest of the Chaldean Catholic Eparchy of Saint Thomas the Apostle, based in Detroit.

The Synod of Bishops of the Patriarchal Chaldean Church, after consultation with the Holy See, established the Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto of the Chaldeans in June, 2011. This decision had also involved the Holy See's consultation with the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The Eparchy is the only Chaldean diocese in Canada and includes all the country's Chaldean Catholics.

The Eparchy of Mar Addai of Toronto has 38,000 Catholics, served by four priests.
