The Honourable Senator Sharon Carstairs
The Senate of Canada
Room 351, East Block
Ottawa, ON
K1A 0A4

Dear Senator Carstairs,

The Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) welcomes the Prime Minister’s announcement that you will take on special responsibility for palliative care. A copy of our letter to the Prime Minister of today’s date is enclosed for your information.

We wish you well as you undertake this special task to enhance Canadians access to high quality palliative care. This wonderful care helps people who are dying to live with dignity until their death and is very consoling for the family and friends who accompany them.

We have high hopes for your new mandate, given the excellent report, Quality End-of-Life Care, of the Senate Subcommittee which you chaired. That report was full of creativity and profoundly respectful of human life. Thank you for your commitment to palliative care.

Sincerely,

Most Rev. Bertrand Blanchet
Archbishop of Rimouski
Chairperson
Catholic Organization for Life
and Family
