The Board of Directors of the corporation World Youth Days 2002 Council/Conseil des journées mondiales de la jeunesse de l’Église catholique has approved the 2002 Audited Financial Statements of the World Youth Day operation. While they cover the principal year of the World Youth Day 2002 event, these statements are not the final report. The final report will be issued when all possible legal claims and calls for financial adjustments are dealt with, hopefully at the end of the current fiscal year.

The World Youth Days 2002 Council/Conseil des journées mondiales de la jeunesse de l’Église catholique continues in operation in order to discharge such outstanding legal claims and to provide on-going information concerning the project. This 2003 exercise will not affect the final financial report in any significant way, which is why the 2002 Audited Financial Statements are now made public. This report, covering the year 2002 which was the principal year of operations, provides a clear picture of the expenditures and sources of income relating to World Youth Day 2002.

Further information about the 2002 Audited Financial Statements can be obtained by telephoning the Secretary of the corporation World Youth Days 2002 Council/Conseil des journées mondiales de la jeunesse de l’Église catholique, Msgr. Peter Schonenbach, at 613-241-9461.

Grand Chief Membertou 400

Since the earliest European settlements in Canada five centuries ago, there has been a close association between the indigenous people and the Catholic Church. Four hundred years ago, on June 24, 1610, Grand Chief Henri Membertou, became the first North American and Mi’kmaq chief to be baptized.
