Your Eminence:
The Bishops of Canada together with all the faithful are grateful to God, the source of mercies, for the news that the Holy Father appears to be well on the road to recovery from his recent bout with the flu.
We continue to pray that his convalescence will be speedy and complete, so that soon he may again with joy and courage continue in his responsibilities as successor of Peter, whom our Lord had asked to confirm his brethren in faith.
I would kindly ask you, when you have occasion, to assure His Holiness of the profound affection in which he is held in our country, not only by Catholics but all citizens, and their great respect for him as a sign of communion, faith and hope.
Please accept, Your Eminence, my best wishes and respects.
Sincerely in Our Lord,
+ Brendan M. O’Brien
