The Most Reverend Joe Vásquez
Bishop of Austin
Pastoral Center
6225 Highway 290 East
Austin, TX   78723-1025

Your Excellency,

On behalf of the Bishops and faithful of Canada, I wish to assure you of our concerns and prayers following the terrible destruction and loss of life from the devastating explosion in the town of West, Texas. We pray for the many victims and their families, and all who are offering them care and assistance, including the search and emergency response teams, as well as those providing social aid and pastoral ministry.

May the message of hope that we proclaim throughout this Easter season bring courage and determination to the town and surrounding communities, and strengthen the hearts of all who have been affected.

With the assurance of my prayers for God’s blessing on your work and witness, I remain,

Fraternally yours in Our Lord,

+Richard W. Smith
Archbishop of Edmonton and
President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops
