The Holy Father on November 15, 2012, addressed the members and consultors of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity.  Its plenary assembly was discussing "The importance of ecumenism in new evangelization". In his address, Pope Benedict XVI said, "The spiritual poverty of many of our contemporaries, who no longer perceive the absence of God in their lives as a form of deprivation, poses a challenge to all Christians." A summary of his address is available from the Vatican Information Service. The complete text, in Italian, is posted on the Holy See's website.
