pope__francisToday, September 7, 2013, along with the crowds gathered in Saint Peter’s Square, Rome, the Holy Father presided at a prayer vigil for peace in Syria, in the entire Mideast region, and throughout the whole world. It was also a day of fasting. Bishops across Canada, united with Pope Francis, led special services as well in their own dioceses over the weekend. Many Canadian dioceses are also organizing a day of prayer and fasting for September 14, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar. This date marks the conclusion of a joint campaign by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) to raise emergency aid for Syrian refugees. Salt + Light TV provided live coverage of the Pope's prayer vigil for peace.
