E-mail Print PDF

Yesterday, the Apostolic Nunciature to Canada informed the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops of the following message from the Holy Father to the people of L'Isle-Verte, following the tragic fire that occurred there on January 22, 2014.

(Unofficial CCCB translation)

"Having been informed of the tragic fire which occurred on the night of January 22 at L'Isle Verte and which, destroying the seniors' residence, claimed numerous victims, many of whom are still reported missing, His Holiness Pope Francis prayerfully shares in the grief of the bereaved families and entrusts the victims to God's mercy, that He may welcome them into His light. He expresses his spiritual closeness to those who were injured and their families, as well as to the firefighters and rescue workers who are showing great solidarity in weather conditions that make their work difficult. As a pledge of comfort, the Holy Father imparts a special Apostolic Blessing to all those who have been affected by this tragic occurrence."
