E-mail Print PDF

The Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), received the following message from His Eminence Pietro Cardinal Parolin, Secretary of State, on January 12, 2015: The Holy Father has learned with great sorrow of the sudden death of His Excellency the Most Reverend Pierre-André Fournier, Archbishop of Rimouski and President of the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Quebec. His Holiness Pope Francis wishes to convey his heartfelt condolences to you, to the family of the deceased, and to the Christian community, so sorely tried, of which he was the faithful and zealous pastor. Beseeching the Father of all mercies to welcome the late Bishop, who gave his all in serving the local Church both at the diocesan level and through his regional responsibilities, into the peace and light of his Kingdom, the Holy Father is also praying for all those who are affected by this sudden loss. He sends, with a whole heart, his Apostolic Blessing to you, to the Bishops of Canada, to the family of the deceased, and to all who will participate in the celebration of his funeral. [CCCB unofficial translation]
