The Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue released a statement on April 22, 2015, encouraging greater dialogue with Muslims and acknowledging that "the great majority of Muslims themselves do not identify with the current acts of barbarism." The Council affirmed that "continuing to engage in dialogue, even when experiencing persecution, can become a sign of hope." It also noted that, in response to the radicalization of communities and religious discourse, "we are called upon to strengthen fraternity and dialogue."
