Logo WYD 2016The Pontifical Council for the Laity has released the Message of the Holy Father for the 31st World Youth Day. WYD 2016 will first be celebrated in the local Churches on March 20 on the theme "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy" (Mt 5:7). This will be followed by the 21st world gathering of youth in July 2016 in Cracow, Poland. In keeping with the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, the Holy Father in his Message invites young people during the first seven months of 2016 to "choose a corporal and a spiritual work of mercy to practise each month." He continues by pointing out that "Only a few months are left before we meet in Poland. Crakow, the city of Saint John Paul II and Saint Faustina Kowalska, is waiting for us with open arms and hearts. I believe that Divine Providence led us to the decision to celebrate the Youth Jubilee in that city which was home to those two great apostles of mercy in our times. John Paul II realized that this is the time of mercy."
