E-mail Print PDF

During his Apostolic Journey to Chile and Peru, 15-22 January 2018, Pope Francis met with representatives of the Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon. The Holy Father's address referred to a number of issues which the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and Catholics throughout Canada are engaged with in dialoguing with Indigenous Peoples – including land, resources, culture, racism, exploitation, abuse, colonialism, missionary work. The question of mining operations in the Amazon region was noted in the recent CCCB statement welcoming the establishment of the position of Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise.
