We are gathered this week in Plenary Assembly in Beaupré, near the national Shrine of Saint Anne, where we will celebrate the Eucharist on Thursday with the pilgrims who will be present. Yesterday, with Their Eminences Jaime Lucas Cardinal Ortega y Alamino, Archbishop of Havana – your Special Envoy – and Gérald Cyprien Cardinal Lacroix – Primate of Canada – we joined the Archdiocese of Québec in joyfully celebrating the 350th anniversary of the canonical erection of the first Catholic parish in North America outside the Spanish territories of the time. This anniversary is particularly significant for us as we continue to be challenged and reinvigorated by the opportunities for evangelizing our country and modern society.
