Mass for the Year of Consecrated Life; CCCB endorses joint campaign for Syrian refugees, and Bishops reflect on interreligious dialogue

Messe oratoire assemblée-2(CCCB – Ottawa)... Over 1,500 persons in the Consecrated Life joined the Bishops of Canada in Saint Joseph's Oratory, Montreal, for the Mass of Thanksgiving to celebrate the Year of Consecrated Life. During the celebration, a joint message was released by the President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau, and the President of the Canadian Religious Conference (CRC), Sister Rita Larivée, S.S.A.

The CCCB today also released a statement endorsing and supporting a joint fundraising campaign for Syrian refugees by the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP), Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Canada, and CNEWA Canada.

50th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate

Pleniere - Nostra AetateThe CCCB Commission for Christian Unity, Religious Relations with the Jews, and Interfaith Dialogue organized a panel reflection to mark the 50th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the Declaration by the Second Vatican Council on interreligious dialogue. The panel members were the Most Reverend J. Michael Miller, C.S.B., Archbishop of Vancouver and the chair of the panel; Dr. Tinu Ruparell, Associate Professor and Department Head of Classics and Religion, University of Calgary, as well as Hindu Co-Chair of the Catholic / Hindu dialogue; Mrs. Alia Hogben, C.M., LL.D., Executive Director of the Canadian Council of Muslim Women; Rabbi Reuven Bulka, C.M., Congregation Machzikei Hadas, Ottawa; and the Most Reverend Claude Champagne, O.M.I., Bishop of Edmundston and Chairman of the Commission.

Daily briefings on the 2015 Plenary Assembly

Pleniere 2015 - Point de presseFor a fourth year, daily briefings on the Plenary were broadcast in English and French on the Internet with the collaboration of Salt + Light TV. At the end of each day, Monday to Thursday, the CCCB Vice President, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton, and the CCCB Co-Treasurer, the Most Reverend Lionel Gendron, P.S.S., Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, reviewed the day's major topics and events. Tomorrow, the daily briefing will feature the newly elected President of the CCCB, Bishop Crosby, and the outgoing President, Archbishop Durocher.
