Pope appoints new Bishop for Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of the Byzantine Rite in Canada

Pacak(CCCB – Ottawa)…His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Reverend Father Marián Andrej Pacák, C.Ss.R. Eparchial Bishop of the sui iuris Slovak Catholic Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of the Byzantine Rite in Canada, succeeding The Most Revered John Stephen Pazak, C.Ss.R., who has served as Eparchial Bishop and then as Apostolic Administrator.

Revered Father Marián Andrej Pacák, C.Ss.R., was born on 24 April 1973 in Levoča (Slovakia). He entered the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer on 16 August 1991. He was ordained to the priesthood on 12 July 1998 and was assigned Pastor in Stará L’ubovňa, a town in Slovakia.

In 2003, he completed a licentiate degree in moral theology at the Alphonsian Academy in Rome. Following his return to Slovakia, he was named bursar of the Redemptorist Vice-Province of Bratislava.

In 2016, he began studies in canon law at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (Poland). Presently he is serving as Chaplain to the Redemptoristine Nuns at the Monastery of the Most Holy Trinity in Vranov nad Topl’ou-Lomnica in eastern Slovakia.

According to the CCCB 2018 Directory, the Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of the Byzantine Rite in Canada has 5 parishes and missions, with a Catholic population of 3,500 served by 4 priests.
