The Commissariat of the Holy Land in Canada, in collaboration with the Franciscan Family Center in Bethlehem, is offering this year a new resource for prayer entitled "Families on the Way of the Cross". Prepared by 14 families from the Holy Land and Canada, this pastoral resource unfolds the intimate experience of the Passion of Christ which many families today live through their many challenges. It also testifies to the Church's solidarity with the Christians of the Holy Land and throughout the Middle East.
Inspired by the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) of Pope Francis, this Way of the Cross is designed for pastoral use during moments of parish prayer, as well as for groups or gatherings on Good Friday. It can be used as part of public processions or vigils, as well as during the rest of the pastoral year to animate various family gatherings. The concluding prayer takes excerpts from the prayer for families issued by the Canadian Catholic Aboriginal Council for the National Day of Prayer in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples in December 2016.
The Franciscan Family Center was established in Bethlehem in 2004 to provide professional counseling to Christian families who have suffered psychological trauma from the armed conflict in Bethlehem as well as sponsoring educational programs for children and adults. The Center collaborates with the Franciscan Latin Catholic parish of St Catherine's in Bethlehem to promote services and assistance for Christian families.
The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) likewise offers a resource for the Stations of the Cross, the Solidarity Way of the Cross. This year, CCODP invites Catholic faithful to "show your solidarity with women and men who are working to build a world of dignity, respect, justice, peace and equality." The Solidarity Way of the Cross can be downloaded from the website of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada, where it is provided as one of the resources for the 2017 Share Lent campaign.
