184-950CCCB Publications has released a new edition of the French-language Ratio formationis sacerdotalis nationalis for the formation of priests in Canadian French-language seminaries and formation centres. Entitled La formation des candidats au ministère presbytéral, this revised version of the formation program reflects the many events that have shaped the socio-cultural and ecclesial context of French-speaking Canada over the past years. The new publication is an essential reference for all those who accompany future priests in their formation for French-speaking and bilingual dioceses as well as institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life, in addition to being a basic resource for all those involved in formation. It is also invaluable for French-speaking priests who will find in it guidance and criteria to help them in discerning and deepening their journey of faith, strengthening their ecclesial commitment, and living their priestly ministry in the Church.

This new document is the second revision of the French-language Ratio nationalis first promulgated for Canada in 1982 and then revised in 1999. It highlights the priest as a pastor who is called to be the image and icon of Christ the Good Shepherd. Each Ratio nationalis adapts and applies for the needs of the particular Churches in a specific country the Ratio fundamentalis or basic formation program published by the Holy See. La formation des candidats au ministère presbytéral was approved by the Bishops of Canada in August 2016 and has received recognitio from the Congregation for the Clergy for the next three years. The process of revising the formation program which is for Canadian English-language seminaries and formation centres is still underway.
