Appointment of new Bishop for Mackenzie-Fort Smith

Hansen Jon-web(CCCB – Ottawa)... His Holiness Pope Francis today named Father Jon Hansen, C.Ss.R., Bishop of the Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith. At the time of his appointment, he was pastor of Our Lady of Victory parish in Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Bishop-elect Hansen succeeds the Most Reverend Mark A. Hagemoen who was appointed Bishop of Saskatoon on 12 September 2017. Since then Bishop Hagemoen has also served as Apostolic Administrator of Mackenzie-Fort Smith.

Launch of web-based video resource by CCCB and COLF on Amoris Laetitia

Amoris Laetitia Video Guide-ENThe Office for Evangelization and Catechesis of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) and the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) have developed and launched a web-based video resource to assist with reflections on, and in the study of, Pope Francis' Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia on love in the family. The resource consists of nine 7-8 minute videos as well as discussion guides. It is designed to be used by individuals in their homes or by groups gathered in diocesan, eparchial, parish, school or other Catholic institutional settings.

Death of the Most Reverend Alphonsus Penney, Archbishop Emeritus of St. John’s

penney(CCCB – Ottawa)... The Most Reverend Alphonsus L. Penney, Archbishop Emeritus of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, died on 12 December 2017 in St. John's at the age of 93. After 12 years as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of St. John's, he had submitted his resignation to the Holy Father at the age of 67 which was accepted on 2 February 1991.

New Bishop appointed for Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière

Goudreault Pierre-web(CCCB – Ottawa)... His Holiness Pope Francis has accepted the resignation of the Most Reverend Yvon Joseph Moreau, O.C.S.O., as Bishop of the Diocese of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, and has appointed today as his successor Father Pierre Goudreault. At the time of his appointment, the Bishop-elect was pastor of Sainte-Trinité parish in Rouyn-Noranda, Québec. Bishop Moreau has been Bishop of the Diocese of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière for the past nine years. He had submitted his resignation to the Holy Father upon reaching the age of 75, as required by the Code of Canon Law.
