40th anniversary of the Most Reverend Robert Lebel as Bishop

Mgr Robert Lebel - 40e episcopat-2The Diocese of Valleyfield celebrated the 40th anniversary of the episcopal ordination of the Most Reverend Robert Lebel, Bishop Emeritus of Valleyfield, during a Mass at the Diocesan Cathedral, Sainte-Cécile Cathedral Basilica, May 2, 2014. The Mass was followed by a special dinner in his honour. Bishop Lebel was born in 1924 in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec, and ordained to the priesthood in 1950. After being ordained Bishop on May 12, 1974, he served as Auxiliary Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, 1974 to 1976. He was appointed Bishop of Valleyfield in 1976, and served as President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, 1989 to 1991. On June 29, 2000, the Holy Father accepted Bishop Lebel’s resignation after he had reached 75 years of age. Bishop Lebel was recently interviewed in French by Auvidec Media on his 40th anniversary.
