Wednesday, November 21, 2012

The Islamabad High Court on November 20, 2012, ordered police to dismiss blasphemy charges against Rimsha, a Christian Pakistani girl with Down’s Syndrome who had been accused of desecrating the Qur’an. After her arrest, she had been taken into police custody for three weeks during August 2012. At the time, the Most Reverend François Lapierre, P.M.É., Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops of Canada (CCCB), had written a letter of concern to the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada, copied to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
