Canonization of Franciscan missionary Junipero Serra

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

On September 23, 2015, the Canadian Catholic television channel Salt + Light TV will broadcast live from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC, the canonization of Blessed Junipero Serra. This historic event can be watched live at 4:15 pm (Eastern Time).

Blessed Junipero was a Spanish Franciscan friar (1713-1784) who founded a mission in Baja, California, and the first nine of 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco. His canonization makes him the most recent of the missionaries from the Americas whom Pope Francis has declared to be among the saints of the Universal Church.
