Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines elected President of Caritas Internationalis

His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Archbishop of Manila, was elected President of Caritas Internationalis for a first term. He succeeds His Eminence Oscar Cardinal Rodriguez Maradiaga, S.D.B., Archbishop of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, who has completed two four-year terms as President. The elections were held during the annual general assembly of Caritas Internationalis which met in Rome, May 12-17, 2015, on the theme “One Human Family, Caring for Creation”. Pope Francis presided at its opening Mass. Caritas Internationalis is the worldwide federation of Catholic relief and development agencies which includes 165 national Caritas, including the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP). Delegates from Development and Peace are participating in the General Assembly, including the President of its National Council, Mr. Ray Temmerman from Manitoba.
