Friday, September 20, 2019

CCC Logo-60x60To recognize and celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC), CCCB President Bishop Lionel Gendron, P.S.S., wrote a letter of congratulations to the Rev. Stephen Kendall, CCC President. The letter will be read and officially presented to the Rev. Kendall after his ecumenical greetings and message during the upcoming CCCB Plenary Assembly to be held in Cornwall, Ontario. The CCC has organized two special events to mark its 75th anniversary: a public worship service on 26 September 2019 in Toronto and a cross-Canada live-streamed event on 26 October featuring a dialogue with leaders and spokespersons from a number of Churches and ecclesial communities across Canada on the theme “Love never ends” (Corinthians 13:8).

The CCC is the broadest ecumenical body in Canada, representing 26 Churches of Anglican, Evangelical, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox, Protestant, Eastern Catholic and Roman Catholic traditions, accounting for approximately 85% of the Christians in Canada.

The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops became a full member of the Council in 1997 after having been an associate member since 1986 and collaborated with it in many ways prior to the 1980s. The CCCB is currently represented on the Governing Board of the Council by the Most Reverend Gerard Bergie, the Most Reverend Pierre Goudreault, and the CCCB General Secretary as an ex officio member.
