CCCB publishes new volume of the English-language Lectionary approved for use in CanadaWednesday, October 1, 2014
The CCCB is pleased to announce the publication of a new volume of the English-language Lectionary approved for use in Canada. The Lectionary: Ritual Masses, Masses for Various Needs and Occasions, Votive Masses, Masses for the Dead was launched at the recent annual Plenary Assembly of the Catholic Bishops of Canada. It contains the readings from Sacred Scripture for all liturgical celebrations outside those prescribed for use on Sundays, Solemnities and weekdays. Including the celebrations of all the Sacraments and special celebrations, the new Lectionary will be used most frequently by parishes for weddings and funerals. The section on “Masses for Various Needs and Occasions” provides a multitude of suggestions for a wide variety of situations pertaining to Church life; Civic needs; and Public needs, including For the Blessing of Human Labour, In Time of Famine, For the Sick, and In Thanksgiving to God. The full-size Ambo edition is intended for all churches, while a smaller, hard-cover edition is available for chapels. A soft-cover edition is available for clergy, pastoral staff and volunteers for planning purposes. Orders can now be placed with CCCB Publications by phone at 1-800-769-1147, by email at email@example.com, and online at www.cccbpublications.ca.
This is the second volume of what eventually will be a three-volume English-language Lectionary for use in Canada. The revised Lectionary for Sundays and Solemnities was published in 2009, while work continues in preparing a new Lectionary for Weekdays. Based on the NRSV translation of the Bible, and approved for use by the Bishops of Canada and the Holy See, the Canadian Lectionary is published exclusively by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops.
