CCODP joins new Caritas Internationalis campaign for SyriaThursday, July 7, 2016
The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) is part of a new information campaign that has been launched by Caritas Internationalis, entitled Syria: Peace is Possible. As an expression of his support for the campaign, Pope Francis issued a video message in which he states: “While the people suffer, incredible quantities of money are being spent to supply weapons to fighters. And some of the countries supplying these arms are also among those that talk of peace. How can you believe in someone who caresses you with the right hand and strikes you with the left hand?”
The Caritas Internationalis campaign includes a new website, http://syria.caritas.org, currently in English, French, Spanish and Arabic. Several resources for the Caritas campaign are provided on the new website under the heading “Campaigners”. For its part, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada has announced that in solidarity with the people of Syria, it is organizing a national day of prayer in Canada on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, the memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi. Further resources as well as suggestions for promotion and advocacy will be made available by CCODP over the coming weeks.
