Tuesday, October 30, 2012
A number of dioceses and parishes across Canada plan to celebrate the recent Canonization of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha as a special opportunity to encourage awareness, reconciliation and gratitude with respect to Indigenous People. Among these celebrations was a special Mass with First Nations communities held at Ste-Anne-des-Pins parish in Sudbury, in the Diocese of Sault-Ste-Marie, on Sunday, October 28, presided by its Bishop the Most Reverend Jean-Louis Plouffe. The celebration was televised by Radio-Canada, the French-language chain of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as part of its weekly TV series, Le jour du Seigneur. The diocese also plans other events to celebrate the Canonization.
