CNEWA Canada helps Assyrian Christians in Syria

logo CNEWAIn a news release published on March 4, 2015, (CNEWA) Canada announced that as of February 26 it has sent “$45,000 in emergency aid to Syria’s Assyrian Church of the East to help 900 families that have left their homes, fleeing the Islamic State that has taken over Hassekeh, a predominantly Christian area north of Syria on the border of Iraq.” CNEWA currently manages emergency programs in Gaza, Iraq and Syria. The organization “is urging the general public to renew their aid to displaced persons and refugees, victims of the war raging in Syria.” CNEWA (the Catholic Near East Welfare Organization) is a pontifical agency for humanitarian and pastoral support, focusing especially on the needs of the Church in the Near East, the Middle East and the Far East.
