COLF Message for the 2017 National Week for Life and the Family
Monday, April 24, 2017To mark the National Week for Life and the Family, 14 to 21 May 2017, the Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) has released its annual message on the theme “Love Grows by Giving“. In its Message, COLF issues an invitation “to reflect with Pope Francis on the wonderful role which God has entrusted to the family in transmitting true love. Let us ask ourselves how we can better reflect God’s unconditional love and mercy, whether in the context of our own day to day family life or to family members or friends ‘at the periphery’.” The Week for Life and the Family is a CCCB initiative that Canadian dioceses and eparchies are invited to promote or adapt according to their own resources and pastoral priorities. Resources have been prepared by COLF in collaboration and consultation with the CCCB.
The materials for the National Week include a poster which can be freely downloaded and reproduced; a prayer card, also for downloading and photocopying; a proposed plan for pastors and lay pastoral workers on how they might organize the Week; a message from the CCCB President, the Most Reverend Douglas Crosby, O.M.I., Bishop of Hamilton; proposals for homily notes and Prayers of the Faithful; suggestions for related events and activities; and COLF’s recent document entitled “The Joy of Love” At the Heart of the Family. This new resource from COLF provides a brief overview of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love) which Pope Francis issued following the two Synods of Bishops on the Family. Printed copies of the document can also be purchased from COLF for 40 cents a copy (plus shipping and handling).
