Friday, December 15, 2017

The Federal Court of Canada has granted public interest standing to the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC), Amnesty International Canada and the Canadian Council of Refugees in their joint legal challenge to the designation of the United States as a safe third country for receiving refugee claimants. The Canadian courts are being asked whether the terms of Canada’s Safe Third Country Agreement with the USA are in accordance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops is a CCC member.
