David Leduc named Executive Director of Development and PeaceThursday, August 6, 2015
The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) announced on July 28, 2015, the appointment of Mr. David Leduc as its new Executive Director. He takes over from Mr. Michael Casey, who is pursuing a new professional career after completing his two five-year terms with Development and Peace. After taking office, Mr. Leduc wrote to the Most Reverend Paul-André Durocher, Archbishop of Gatineau and President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), to express his enthusiasm on assuming his new duties and his desire to collaborate with the Bishops of Canada “in continuity of a common mission to spread our Lord’s universal message of love through programs on behalf of the poorest in our world”. Msgr. Patrick Powers, P.H., General Secretary of the CCCB, has in turn sent best wishes to Mr. Leduc and assured him of the full cooperation of the staff of the Episcopal Conference.
Article 5 of the CCODP General By-Laws states that “By virtue of its mandate, and in pursuit of its efforts to engage all society in actions for international solidarity, the Organization collaborates with the Catholic community and the Catholic Bishops of Canada,” working in harmony with the CCCB and, within each Canadian diocese, with each Bishop, as well as in collaboration with the Holy See as a member of Caritas Internationalis. As has been its practice since being founded by the Bishops of Canada almost 50 years ago, CCODP appoints its Executive Directors in consultation with the CCCB.
