General Secretary of Caritas Internationalis visits Canada

On February 28, 2012, the General Secretary of Caritas Internationalis, Mr. Michel Roy, was in Ottawa. He visited the offices of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), where he was received by CCCB General Secretary Msgr. Patrick Powers, P.H., and the Most Reverend Richard Grecco, Bishop of Charlottetown and one of two CCCB delegates on the National Council of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace. Bishop Grecco also serves on the CCCB Standing Committee for Development and Peace. The same day in Ottawa, Mr. Roy met with the Humanitarian Aid section of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
While in Canada, Mr. Roy also visited the main offices of Development and Peace in Montreal to meet with its staff and to discuss the work of Caritas Internationalis. Mr. Roy was elected its General Secretary in May 2011, at the federation’s General Assembly in Rome.
Development and Peace is the Canadian member of Caritas Internationalis, a federation of 164 Catholic aid and development organizations worldwide. Development and Peace Executive Director Mr. Michael Casey is currently President of the Caritas North America Region, and Vice-President of the Caritas Internationalis Board and Executive Committee. While in Ottawa, Mr. Roy was accompanied by Mr. Casey and by Mr. Gilio Brunelli, Director of International Programs for Development and Peace.
