Information on the Bible liturgique and the French-language translation of the Our Father

Friday, October 18, 2013

Delhougne_HenriDuring the 2013 Plenary Assembly of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) this past September, Father Henri Delhougne, O.S.B., gave a presentation on the new French-language translation of the complete Bible for liturgical use. Father Delhougne, a monk from Clervaux Abbey in Luxembourg, coordinated the international translation work on the project that has taken about 15 years. The Bible liturgique has now been formerly approved by the Bishops of all French-speaking countries, including Canada, and received the recognitio of the Holy See. This new official translation will be launched this coming November, with a Canadian soft-cover edition to be published by the CCCB at the beginning of 2014. A possible question about the French-language translation is its rendering of one line in the Our Father. The CCCB has issued a note about the background of the new translation of the Bible and of the one line in the Our Father.
