Installation of the new Apostolic Exarch for Syriac Catholics in Canada
Wednesday, February 24, 2016The Most Reverend Antoine Nassif will be installed as Exarch of the new Apostolic Exarchate for Syro-Catholics in Canada on February 27, 2016, at 5:30 p.m., in St. Ephrem’s Church, Laval, Quebec, which is the See of the new exarchate, His Beatitude Moran Mor Ignatius, Ephrem Joseph Younan, Patriarch of Syriac Catholic Church, will preside. The Most Reverend Christian Lépine, Archbishop of Montreal, will represent the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. In addition, Syriac Bishops from the United States, as well as from the European countries, will be present. Bishop Nassif was ordained in Lebanon this past January 23. At the time of his appointment by Pope Francis on January 7, 2016, as Exarch of the Apostolic Exarchate for Syro-Catholics in Canada, he was Rector of the Patriarchal Seminary of Charfet in Lebanon. Previously, Syriac Catholics of Canada were part of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Deliverance for Syriac Catholics in the United States and Canada which had been erected in 1995. The Syriac Catholic community has been present in Canada since 1976.
