International Congress Ecclesia in America

The Pontifical Commission for Latin America and the Knights of Columbus, in collaboration with the Instituto Superior de Estudios Guadalupanos, are hosting an International Congress on Ecclesia in America which is meeting in Vatican City, December 9-12, 2012. The event celebrates the 15th anniversary of the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops. One of its objectives is to reflect on themes of the new evangelization for the American continent, particularly in light of the Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in America.
His Eminence Marc Cardinal Ouellet, Prefect of the Congregation for Bishops and former Archbishop of Quebec City, is President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America. His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will chair a session on challenges for the Christian family, the dignity of women, and the hope of the young, which will be introduced by Dr. Vicky Thorn, Director of Project Rachel. The Most Reverend Gérald Cyprien Lacroix, Archbishop of Quebec City, will introduce a session on the meaning, implications and tasks of the new evangelization. Lecturers include Mr. Carl Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, who is speaking on “Our Lady of Guadalupe, Star of the new evangelization and Mother of the civilization of love”. The Most Reverend Brian Bayda, Ukrainian Catholic Eparchial Bishop of Saskatoon, is among those who have been invited to participate.
