Ordination of new Bishop of Hearst

Bourgon RobertThe ordination of the Most Reverend Robert Bourgon as Bishop of the Diocese of Hearst and Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Moosonee will take place on Monday, April 25, 2016, at 4:00 p.m., at Notre-Dame de l’Assomption Cathedral, Hearst, Ontario. The Most Reverend Terrence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of Ottawa, will preside as the principal ordaining Bishop, along with the Most Reverend Vincent Cadieux, O.M.I., Bishop Emeritus of Hearst and Moosonee, and the Most Reverend Jean-Louis Plouffe, Bishop Emeritus of Sault Ste-Marie, as co-consecrators. The Apostolic Nuncio, the Most Reverend Luigi Bonazzi, will be also present. The Most Reverend Marcel Damphousse, Bishop of Sault Ste-Marie, will give the homily. At the time of his appointment on February 2, 2016, Bishop Bourgon was Vicar General of the Diocese of Sault Ste-Marie. He succeeds Bishop Cadieux who led the Diocese of Moosonee over the past 24 years, as well as the Diocese of Hearst since 2006. He remains Apostolic Administrator of Hearst and Moosonee until the new Bishop takes canonical possession of the two Dioceses.
