Passing of Msgr. Léonard Rochon, P.H., former CCCB staff member

Rochon LeonardThe Archdiocese of Ottawa has announced the death of Msgr. Léonard Rochon, P.H., a former staff member of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), on November 10, 2014 at the age of 91. Born in Calumet, Quebec in 1923, he was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Ottawa in 1949. In 1973, Msgr. Rochon joined the CCCB Secretariat. He served as a member of the Pastoral Team that was formed as a research unit within the Secretariat. His specialization was in the area of Catechetics. He played an important role in promoting francophone religious education. He served as an animator for catechesis in the francophone dioceses outside Quebec and as liaison with the Quebec Catechetical Office (l’Office de catéchèse du Québec). In 1983, he was appointed by the CCCB Executive Committee as a special assistant for the organization of the 1984 Papal Visit to Canada. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, November 14 at 2:30 p.m., and will be presided by the Most Reverend Terrence Prendergast, S.J., Archbishop of Ottawa.
