Pope Francis confirms membership of Congregation for the Causes of Saints

His Holiness Pope Francis today, December 19, 2013, confirmed the membership of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. Among the members is His Eminence Jean-Claude Cardinal Turcotte, Archbishop Emeritus of Montreal. In addition, the Holy Father confirmed the appointment of His Eminence Angelo Cardinal Amato as Prefect of the Congregation and of the Most Reverend Marcello Bartolucci as its Secretary. The terminology used for the confirmation of Cardinal Amato was “donec aliter provideatur”, a canonical term in Latin that means this is not a standard five-year appointment. Cardinal Turcotte is also member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and of the Special Assembly for America of the Synod of Bishops.
